The second round of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMRSC) Endurance series is set for tomorrow at the South Dakota Circuit at Timehri and Team Wreckers’ Anand Ramchand has admitted that he is wary of some of the opposition but he believes that the Wreckers are going to extend their overall win streak to five years.
During round one of the 2018 Endurance series, Wreckers’ Gillette sponsored Toyota Levin car completed a total of 83 laps during the two-hour long race.
Ramchand who is also the GMRSC’s 2017 National Race of Champions, Starlet Cup title holder, told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that tomorrow he will be rolling out his Toyota Celica motorcar after a two-year hiatus from the grueling contest at South Dakota.
He explained that his reason from taking the Celica out the shop is mainly due to the fact that he expects stiffer competition compared to previous years with his former teammate, Rameez Mohamed of B.M. Soat, the closest rival to potentially upset Wreckers for the win.
“Rameez has been doing a lot of work on his Honda and there has been a lot of buzz going around with the power of that customized motor car and we will not be taking any chances. It’s been four consecutive years we’ve won the overall title and we intend to make it five and although this is the first time I’ll be competing in the Celica, it won’t be a problemâ€, Ramchand posited.
Besides Wreckers being the overall winners from January’s first round, the other winners were as follows: in the 0-1500cc class, Roshan Ali and Shahabudin Roshandin, while the 1501-1600cc was won by Team Wreckers’ Fernandes and Ramchand and in the 1601-2000cc class, Rameez Mohamed was the only driver to finish the race with 32 laps, also resetting the lap record with 1:19.086.The Unlimited class was won by Romeo Singh who completed 57 laps.
The event which is being sponsored by Special Auto, B.M. Soat, Tropical Shipping and Ansa Mcal will be free to the public. (Calvin Chapman)
