Despite receiving their containers late on Friday night, team Guyana rose to the occasion come qualifying on Saturday.
In Group 4, Mark Vieira stormed to pole position in his Mazda RX8, with a time of 39.580, outpacing Trinidadian Kristian Boodoosingh by a second, while Andrew King will start a strong 4th place on the grid.
Following on Vieira’s success, Team Mohamed’s rider Matt Truelove secured pole position in the Superbikes class with a time of 40.632, one second quicker than Trinidadian Kiel Abraham. Matthew Vieira will start 3rd on the grid as he continues his 2018 championship quest.
Lone Group 1 representative Sharima Khan’s weekend got off to a tough start as she was unable to set a time during qualifying. In Group 2, Trinidadian racer Marc Gill took pole position honors in a qualifying session that saw no Guyanese participate.
Team Guyana was however, represented in Group 3 by Rameez Mohamed and Haniff Mohamed. Haniff did not manage to set a time while Rameez set a time good enough for 6th place on the grid. Pole position went to Kristian Boodoosingh.
This weekend will also see the start of a Radical SR3 Championship Series in which Barbadian Mark Maloney took the first pole position. Mark Vieira represents Guyana in the series and qualified 3rd with a time of 41.261, 0.9 seconds off the pole time.
